Description & Notes: Edwardian rounded rectangular match safe engraved front and back with twelve vertical parallel lines and along the edge as a horizontal strike. The hinged lid opens to a hinged vesta compartment and integral wheel advanced tinder cord slot with top sliding fob ring lid.
There is no tinder cord or matches; these were of course intended to be purchased at the buyer’s discretion. The ends of the cord would be wound into elaborate and decorative knots and/or the ends further unwound into a tassel.
The tinder addition is a luxury allowance later eclipsed by the automatic lighter.
Markings: lid and Vesta compartment interiors are marked with maker’s mark and silver purity marks
Condition: Excellent Vintage Condition – no damage, no repair. The tinder cord is of course contemporary, the hinge and lift compartment are appropriately strong and secure and the wheel function and slide top are in perfect working order. There is a link ring for allowance as a watch fob.
