Notes: Dating from the early period of the United States the Chinese Export soup tureen has been custom painted with the Arms of the United States and floral bouquets featuring roses strung together with garlands of gilt flowers, in celebration of the newly forming union. The Arms depicted is most similar to those of Trenchard’s Engraving of 17861, where the clouds form an arc and radiance is extended upwards and outwards, a similar arms, can be seen on a Chinese Export sugar and pitcher in the collections at Colonial Williamsburg (2008-148,A&B;2008-149).
