Sugar Nips – Georg Jensen – SS, Tongs
SilverSummary: Art Deco / Modernist Georg Jensen sterling silver sugar nips (tongs), the 1930's mechanical design consists of two opposing discs that when compressed enable a scissor action to close on a cube of sugar. This design is rare as it does not have the usual stylized designs that Jensen is noted for but a more novel machine like appearance and scissor action. It is struck with the more desirable early hallmarks, used from 1933-1944, and the London date code “C” for 1938. This dates these tongs as having been produced near to their original design date. Mary McCONNELL – Oil – Series of Stages
PaintingOriginal impressionist oil on canvas painting by listed Canadian artist M. Cary (Blyth) McConnell (fl. 1890-1940). The viewer is presented with a carefully cropped view of boathouses lining a waterfront with trees extending into a moody sky. Overcast yet decidedly still the painting anticipates the quiet before an approaching storm, the leaves above appear to be just starting to rustle while the waters are reflecting the buildings with unwavering reflection. Particularly striking is McConnell’s French modernist influence which can be seen in the colour treatment and execution in the paneled row.
