SUMMARY: Delicate German Scherenschnitte picture depicting Hansel & Gretel, the children of a poor woodcutter, about to come out of the forest and upon the Gingerbread House, made c. 1920s.
The scene contains everything, with a strong rotational (a)symmetry, in an egg shaped form: the seasonally bountiful yet dangerous forest, alert pointy-eared foraging squirrel, a comfortable looking open doored house with over-incorporated carved hearts & stars in its construction, three pretzel knots on a bony stick, a hanged gingerbread man, and smoke wafting upwards from the chimney. The sinister presence is implied without personification at the confluence.
