Description

SUMMARY: British pottery footed bowl decorated in the ‘Banded Pomegranate’ pattern, designed by William Moorcroft (1872-1945) for Moorcroft Pottery (est. 1897), Burslem, Stoke-on-Kent, Staffordshire, England.

DESCRIPTION: Often found with banding variations this circular bowl with raised sides, further raised on a ring foot with incised cobalt rings, incorporates two green and blue dot ‘peacock feather’ motif bands either-side the central pomegranates and grapes on a brushed cobalt blue ground. The bands are reminiscent of Moorcroft’s earlier patterns for Macintyre and successfully emphasize the flowing wreath of Pomegranates.

NOTES: This early 20th Century design is reminiscent of the British Pre-Raphaelite School and draws the Arts & Crafts safely through the Art Deco period into modern fashions. It is well-suited for incorporation into any interior.

DIMENSIONS: 8 ⅛+” diameter X 3 ¼”+ high

20.6cm diameter x 8.3cm high

MARKINGS: Signed on base with William Moorcroft’s blue ‘Flash’ signature partially covered by the original Paper Royal Warrant, “By Appointment / [Coat of Arms] / W. Moorcroft / Potter To / H. M. the Queen”; full impressed marks on base, “MADE IN / ENGLAND”

CONDITION: Excellent Vintage Condition – no damage, no restorations.
