Japanese shinchu hishaku-gata yatate (brass dipper form portable brush and ink holder), 6 7/8” x ½”, with a 1 ½” deep tapered left opening sumitsubo (ink basin) decorated with a clove where the tube and ink basin join. A sliding ring loosely fits around the brush tube with a smaller ring attached for sagemono (suspended container) or netsuke (miniature sculpture) attachment, a round knob at the end of the tube keeps it from falling off. The lid slightly overlaps the ink basin and it doubles as the door keeping the fude (brush) held safely within the storage tube, when flipped upside-down the lid remains close.
