Condition: An Antique it is in Very Good Condition.
For Sale: there is a spider crack to the left of the head, it remains in the background.
Note: A three-quarter length portrait of Marie Thérèse de Bourbon holding two daisies, after Nicolas Foucher. It appears that both Nicolas Foucher and Pierre Mignard painted near identical portraits of Marie Thérèse, or at least the two complimentary portraits are attributed to their different hands. In 1989 Sotheby’s Auction House, Monaco, sold the painting which most closely resembles the one to which Ryan appears to have had access. It was listed as by Nicholas Foucher (alternate spelling) whereas the Pierre Mignon is often attributed to Mignon but is officially described at Musee national de Port-Royal des Champs as Anonyme francais. Both artists are commonly unsigned and rely heavily on Provenance, inscriptions and supplementary evidence. Additionally, an engraving of the so-called Mignon was made by Nicholas II de Larmessin (1632-1694).
Remnants of a partial Scholz & Janentzky artist suppliers label can be found on the stretcher verso and date the piece to c. 1861-1868 when they were known to reside at the location of 112 South 8th St., Philadelphia.
