Known primarily for her miniatures, Acheson exhibits a clarity in vision and lightness of execution in her artworks.
Reminiscent of Hovsep Pushman, a mystic tone is achieved through the use of soft colours, and the juxtaposition of the immovable serene idol and lush vase of buoyant flowers. Unlike many still lives, and here departing from Pushman’s austerity, these flowers are unmistakably alive; vital energy is released from the tensions of the living, growing plant and the static made form of the idol swaddled under flowing blue robes. This, along with the illuminated atmosphere, releases the formality of the composition elevating the subject to the unseen– here humanity isn’t removed from nature it is one with it. Anemones are often associated with relief from emotional distress.
Markings: signed lower left, “G E ACHESON”
Condition: Very Good Vintage Condition – no notable damage, no repair with very little age and use wear, only what is expected on such an item. For Accuracy Only: there are a couple light scuffs in the idols’ shadow (see picture) and the frame shows wear to the extremities. It has not been cleaned and is offered as found to preserve the patina for future generations and the buyer’s personal preferences. Offered in the original complimentary frame it is ready for display.
