Description: A fine original Donald Applebe Smith (British / Canadian, b. 1917) MSA, titled ‘Memories of Howe Sound #1’. Depicted is a bright landscape looking across Howe Sound towards the Mountains as viewed from a lush green shoreline. It is executed in fresh blues, greens, greys and yellows.
Notes: Past president and member of the Manitoba Society of Artists and brother of prominent Canadian painter Gordon Applebe Smith.

Artist Biography: SMITH, Donald Appelbe MSA (b. 1917). Born in London, England, Smith came to Canada in 1934, studied at the Winnipeg School of Art, Winnipeg, Manitoba (c.1937); and at the Art Students’ League, New York City, New York. Working in oil, watercolour, and acrylic, his subjects include abstract landscapes and still life. He also painted in northern Ontario, near Muskoka. He worked as a commercial artist, and was President of the Manitoba Society of Artists in 1953. He is the brother of Gordon Appelbe Smith. He exhibited with the AAM in 1937.
