Description & Notes: A fine Charlotte Rhead designed Patch pattern charger made circa 1935-1939.
Notes: The Rhead family is known for their innovative usage of tube-lining and Charlotte became a master of adapting this technique to fit many specialty designs, especially during the Crown Ducal years. Pattern 4088 playfully transforms the textural quality of tube-lining into a trompe l’oeil-esque stitched patchwork of pottery parts.
The large disc form is segmented into various sections: the central plate with three evenly spaced sections “stitched together” with luster primrose, green, black, orange & yellow semi-circular “patches” aligned along the inner “stitched” border that holds together the outer ring.
Dimensions: 12” diameter x 1 ½” high
Markings: Base stamped with blue/black Period 2 (1935-1939) backstamp (AGR2), “[Crown] / Crown Ducal / Made in / England”; inscribed pattern number in orange paint, “8804”.
Condition: A period piece, over 76 years old, it is offered in very nice original condition – no damage, no repair. The colours are bright, the tube-lining strong, sectional delineation crisp and presentation wonderful.
