Notes: Fine gently moulded and hand-painted serving bowl in the pre-war ‘Celtic Harvest’ pattern, designed by Clarice Cliff for Newport Pottery Company, England, c. 1937-41. The ample-sized round bowl is decorated with a central band of repeating hay stooks placed symmetrically on a deeply embossed cream ground, flanked with figural “fruit bunch” handles hand-painted in bright polychrome enamels. Designed as a comprehensive place setting, ‘Celtic Harvest’ evokes reminiscences of autumn time cottage life.

For accuracy there is a tiny paint fleck on one handle and some uniform crazing to the body – these are common to Celtic Harvest and are commensurate with age.
