Description & Notes: A holy water font featuring a central oval hand-painted and gilt porcelain icon plaque of Saint Joseph and the Christ Child, father and son, together holding the flowering rod. Set into an ornamental champlevé fleur-de-lis with matching lower font, on an onyx cartouche form ground with brass backing inclusive of a ring wall mount.
Markings: unmarked
Complete: ht. 9 3/8”; wd. 6 3/8”; ht. 1 1/8” (w/ font)
Plaque: ht. 2 ¼”; wd. 1 ¾”
Condition: A period piece, it is in very good original condition.
For accuracy: there is a handful of extremely light chipping to the extremities of the onyx as one would expect, and light expected gilt loss to the font from light use, else the colours are superb with no enamel loss and a natural rich patina.
