Notes: British Arts & Crafts Liberty & Co sterling silver mustard pot, form 490, with planished body, integral hinged lid, D form handle, all raised on a pad foot. Deceptively simple in appearance this mustard is a perfect example of the quality and intricacy of Liberty & Co. design. Known for their attention to detail this little pot, intended for everyday use, has all the hallmarks of a luxury silver object – the hand-worked hammered finish, rolled lips, fine soldering, quality gauge, round coin form cap, wide thumb lift, bar hinge, & refined organic form.
Markings: impressed on base, “490”, Liberty & Co. L & Co sponsor’s mark, Birmingham Anchor town mark, Lion Passant sterling silver purity mark, 1926 “B” date code; interior of lid impressed with sterling silver lion passant purity mark, 1926 “B” date code
Condition: Excellent Vintage Condition – no damage, no repair with very little age and use wear, only what is expected on such an item. Complete with original cobalt glass liner. It has not been cleaned and is offered as found to preserve the patina for future generations and the buyer’s personal preferences.
