A dark rosewood snuff box of rectangular shape with rounded edges that give it the appearance of being oval when looked at end on. 2 ¾” long x 1 1/16” wide x 2/4” deep, it dates to the late Victorian era, circa 1860-1880. The main body is hollowed out by hand from a single piece of wood and the hinged lid is affixed by a hidden internal bar with four hinge pins showing on top. The front end of the snuff boxes lid curves slightly upwards forming a thumb life for easy accessibility.
An Antique, it is offered in excellent original condition free from damage or repair. The patination is warm and untouched with a smooth surface and light vert-de-gris on the hinge. A charming object it would make a wonderful addition to any discerning collection.
