Notes: Rare Irish Belleek 1st black mark cup & saucer with ring handle hand-enameled in the ‘Limoges’ type with a Stork amongst reeds and flowers with a lake and mountains in the distance. This pattern is said to be introduced under Robert Williams Armstrong; the ‘Limoges Enamel’ style executed by Thomas Bott was highlighted at the Paris Exhibition of 1855.
Dimensions: 2 ¾” high x 3 ¾” wide (across handle); 5 ½” diameter x ⅝” high (saucer)
Markings: marked on base with 1st black mark; impressed with 1st black mark
Condition: Antique, Very Good Condition. For Accuracy: there is a single fleabite at the rim near the handle (see pic); to be honest I’m not certain this isn’t from the factory as the gilt is original and extends into the chip. Any wear to the lustre centre of the saucer where the cup rests is negligible – the gilt is superb for the age.
